There was no horizon.

No sun waited beneath the edge of the world. No wind moved across a field. No human heart had ever beaten.

Genesis does not begin by trying to prove God. It begins with God already there—before time could be counted, before matter could be measured, before the universe had a story to tell.

Then, with no struggle and no rival, God spoke. The silence did not merely break. Reality began.

THE FIRST WORD · GENESIS 1:1

In the beginning.

The Bible opens without fanfare, explanation, or apology. It does not begin with humanity reaching toward heaven. It begins with God reaching into nothingness and calling a universe into being.

The Hebrew name of Genesis, Bereshit, comes from its first word: “In the beginning.” Yet this is not the beginning of God. It is the beginning of everything that is not God—the first edge of time, the first existence of space, the first moment creation could be called creation.
